The defenders of the title (in the nearest edition Russia and Brazil) will fight for the right of participation in the eliminations, for the first time ever.
24 teams participating in the final event will be divided into the four groups, with six teams each one - A, B, C and D. The host team will play in group A. Four the best teams of each group will promote to the next round, creating two groups E and F with eight teams each one. Four teams from group A will promote to group E. The remaining teams (four out of each group) will be drawn. Ex. In group E we will see teams from group A and B or A and C, or A and D. At the 2006 World Championships in Japan even before the start one could expect who the rial is going to be in the II round. – In 2014 finals it is not known against who one will have to play in the II round. Five years ago there has been a certain method. Now it will be replaced by the drawing of groups-sais Mirosław Przedpełski, President of the Polish volleyball Federation.
Four leading teams of group E and F will promote to the quarterfinals, with the following schedule: E1 with F4, E2 with F3, E3 with F2 and E4 with F1. There is possibility for the matches of groups E and F to be performed in four cities.
FIVB Board at the meetings in Lausanne fixed the system of qualifications to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. 12 teams will be playing: - 1 – host team (Brazil); 5 – champions of the continent or winners of the continental tournaments; 2 – winners of the 2015 World Cup; 4 – winners of the world tournaments. – Authorities of particular region will decide whether promotion will be given to the champion of the continent or the winner of the continental tournament.
