The first phase of the contest for the logo of the 2014 Men’s Volleyball World Championships, in Poland, came to an end.

The first phase of the contest for the logo of the 2014 Men’s Volleyball World Championships, in Poland, came to an end.

Polish Volleyball Federation’s contest was directed to the representatives of particular schools of art in Poland. For the first time in history, the nationwide contest for the logo of a sport event on a global scope has been organized in Poland. In the second phase a final logo will be chosen by the public opinion.

According to the regulations of the contest, students from the following schools of arts in Poland have been invited to participate: Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, University of Arts in Poznań.

The Jury members, including: Artur Popko – Vice-president of the Polish Volleyball Federation, Ewa Grzegorczyk – Polish Volleyball Federation, Professor Rosław Szaybo – Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Katarzyna Stanny – Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Paweł Wójcik – Polsat TV, Anna Rusajczyk – 2014 World Championship’s Organization Staff, Krzysztof Lipiec – 2014 World Championship’s Organization Staff, qualified the following projects to the second phase of the contest (the names of the authors are listed in alphabetical order):


•    Bieńkowska Joanna – The Acedemy of Fine Arts in Warsaw-2nd year student of the Faculty of Painting and Warsaw School of Social Sciences and Humanities-4th year student of the Faculty of Clinical Psychology  
•    Marciniak Marcin – University of Arts in Poznań-1st year student of the Faculty of Graphic
•    Pawiłowska Dorota – Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw-5th year student of the Faculty of Graphic


The logo had to fulfill the following conditions: include the symbolism of volleyball as a sport discipline (freedom of interpretation), contain the symbolism of Poland as a country with high position on the international arena (freedom of interpretation), as well as to emphasize the importance of the event and reflect its rank.


“After the meeting of the Jury, I am pleased to inform that the involvement of the students in the contest was a good decision. Young artists have sent in many interesting, creative and original projects. We are very pleased that students of the best schools of arts in Poland have become co-authors of the most important volleyball tournament. Congratulations to the finalists and special thanks to everyone who participated in the contest!”.
