Agata Mróz-Olszewska has been one of the most talented volleyball players in Poland. She has been representing our country, at the international arena, for many times. Twice she won the European Championship title (2003 and 2005). While playing with Stal Bielsko-Biała she won the Championship of Poland and with Gruppo Murcia 2002 the Championship of Spain.
Because of a bad health condition (the marrow myelodysplastic syndrome) in 2007 she decided to finish her volleyball career. The same year she married Jacek Olszewski, and in 2008 she gave birth to her doughter – Liliana. In May 2008 Agata Mróz-Olszewska underwent a successful surgery of a marrow transplantation. Unfortunately, she died fourteen days later, at the age of 26.
- We can talk about Agata all night long, but although many years have passed, still it is hard for me to talk about her – said Katarzyna Skowrońska-Dolata, with tears in her eyes. –What was Agata like? She was funny. It was a very strong and wonderful person. A good girl with great passion towards volleyball, a very good friend outsider the court.
- Sometimes Agata was a little tedious, but it was all so sweet. She has always been ill and she felt the hardship of the disease. We have been together in a School of Sport Championship in Sosnowiec (pol.: Szkoła Mistrzostwa Sportowego w Sosnowcu) and sometimes she mentioned about ‘being tired’ or ‘having no strength’ and we got used to this. She did not bother anyone with it. We learned to accept her fragility. But whenever there was a hard situation on court, she did her best. She had great character to play volleyball and was definitely one of the most talented volleyball players – said Katarzyna Skowrońska-Dolata about Agata Mróz-Olszewska.
