Monday, February 29 is going to be a very special day for Volleyball across whole Europe – according to numbers announced by the CEV, nearly 50,000 people will be passing the ball in one-set matches, celebrating the game they love. Poland, boasting its nickname – “Volleyland” – as well as some of the most colorful and dedicated Volleyball fans in the world, has something to prove on a day like this.

7:10 A.M. marks the start of the first one-setters in Poland, and the Volleyball fever will continue till late evening, as some 1800 matches are scheduled to take place in more than 220 venues across almost 130 cities and towns, involving almost 15000 participants – old and young, amateur and professional.

Poland’s Volleyball School Centers (Siatkarskie Ośrodki Szkolne – "S.O.S-es") seem to be the backbone of the initiative in Poland, but it also involves professional players from clubs of all league levels and “laymen” who simply happen to love the game. #OneDayMore4Volleyball in Poland has also been recognized by and received the honorary patronage of Polish Minister of Sport and Tourism, Mr. Witold Bańka.

The fact that the initiative will involve so many elementary and junior high-schoolers bodes well for the future of our sport in Poland and so does the creativity of the local event organizers. Volleyball-themed art contest, a film show, teachers vs. students matches, meetings with local Volleyball heroes, tournaments with medals, diplomas and prizes – these are just a few examples of extra activities to go with #OneDayMore4Volleyball matches in many of the registered towns. The fact that all these are local initiatives only adds to the beauty of the Europe-wide event. Polish Volleyball Federation President Paweł Papke also decided to take active part in it and on February 29 he will be passing the ball alongside the players of AZS Olsztyn – his hometown team.

It is only hours till the balls start flying. Let’s enjoy the once-in-four-years opportunity and spend tomorrow’s day with Volleyball!
