The national teams were supposed to participate in the tournament. However, because of the Olympic Games in London, the organizers decided to change the date and formula of the tournament and invited club teams to participate.

At the beginning, this year’s Memorial of Agata Mróz-Olszewska had to be scheduled on mid-July, in two halls: Spodek in Katowice and in Centrum hall, in Dąbrowa. The national teams were supposed to participate in the tournament. However, because of the Olympic Games in London, the organizers decided to change the date and formula of the tournament and invited club teams to participate. Poland will be represented by the winner of the Cup of Poland, Tauron MKS Dąbrowa Górnicza. The remaining participants are Dynamo Moskwa, Azzerail Baku and Crvena Zvezda Belgrad.

The 14th of September (Friday)

Traditionally, except sport emotions we will not miss activities promoting blood donation and transplantation of bone marrow. During the memorial various performances of sportsmen, artists, medical and sport press conferences, painting and rescue courses will take place. Also the charity organizations from all over the world present themselves.

 

Agata Mróz-Olszewska has been twice the Champion of Europe. Two times she has been fighting for the Championship of Poland with Stal Bielsko-Biała, and the Championship of Spain with Gruppo 2002 Murcia. She suffered bone marrow myelodysplastic syndrome. She died on the 4th of June 2008. She was 26 years old. She supported the idea of blood donation and transplantation of bone marrow. When she died, her friends and husband Jacek Olszewski decided to continue this undertaking.

- Agata was a strong and fantastic person – recalls Katarzyna Skowrońska-Dolata. – She was a good girls with big heart dedicated to volleyball. She also was a person of great character one of the biggest volleyball talents. An amazing friend off court. I miss her so much.
