Today Volleyball has its 116th birthday. On the 9th February 1895 William G. Morgan (1870-1942) in American Holyoke gave speech concerning a new sport discipline. The audience gathered in the local hall YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association). It was exactly the Young Men’s Christian Association had at the very beginning the biggest impact on the development of volleyball.
Morgan used basketball, baseball and handball rules of the game, to create a new sport discipline. At the beginning, the number of participants was unlimited. In 1900 crossed the borders of the USA. In 1947 FIVB (Federation Internationale de Volleyball) was established with 14 members, including: Belgium, Portugal, Romania, USA, Uruguay and Hungary. The first president was Paul Libaud and one of the vice-presidents was Zygmunt Nowak. Nowadays, FIVB has 220 members grouped in five continental confederations: Africa (53), Asia (65), Europe (55), NORCECA (35) and South America (12).
In 70’s Polish National Team won the World Championship title and the Olympic Games’ Champion title.
