On Wednesday Asseco Resovia RZESZOW claimed Poland’s Super Cup for the first time in their history. The national champions beat the winners of last year’s national cup, Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE, 3:2 (22-25, 25-19, 25-23, 21-25, and 15-13) in Poznan.

Zaksa started out strong to win the first set but Asseco Resovia responded by taking the second and third with a superb performance. However, their opponents did not give in and seized set 4 to call for the tie-break. Asseco Resovia found back their best play there and controlled the game from the start up to the end to win the first trophy of the year with 4,000 fans in attendance.

“I congratulate my players on their performance” said Asseco Resovia head coach Andrzej Kowal. “That is my first important trophy after we won the national league in 2012 and 2013. Though we won tonight I do respect Zaksa a lot and acknowledge that they played a good game. I think this rivalry is going to continue throughout the season”.

This was only the second time the Super Cup was played in Poland after the inaugural edition claimed last year by PGE Skra BELCHATOW after edging Asseco Resovia RZESZOW.
