- Volleyball World Championships at Wawel

The sport-entertainment hall in Czyżyny will be the 2014 World Championships’ sport hall for the senior men’s volleyball tournament. On Thursday, the contrach between the President of Kraków city, Jacek Majchrowski, and President of the Polish Volleyball Federation, Mirosław Przedpełski. The volleyball World Championships in Poland will be organized for the first time – 24 national teams will participate in the tournament. The host cities for the matches are: Kraków, Łódź, Katowice, Gdańsk - Sopot, Wrocław and Bydgoszcz.
According to the contract signed, Kraków will provide organizers will the sport-entertainment hall at Stanisława Lema street, in Czyżyny, whereas, Polish Volleyball Federation is obliged to organize the event in Kraków and perform promotional activities of Kraków, as one of the host city for the Championships. President of the city Kraków, Jacek Majchrowki, assured that the hall will be ready on time. Construction of the hall is being supervised by Agencja Rozwoju Miasta (the City’s Development Agency) and will cost 360 million zł. The construction process will be finished on March 2014, at the latest.
President of the PVF, Mirosław Przedpełski: - Polish national team will start its games in Wrocław, and then – at the second phase of the tournament in Łódź. The final matches – according to the plans – are to take place in Katowice. Unfortunately, having this system of the tournament it is not possibile to satisfy all the cities with matches of the polish national team. However, before the World Championships, we will play the World League tournaments, including the polish national team and they will take place in Kraków hall.
President of the city of Kraków,Jacek Majchrowski: - Since some time Kraków promotes itself as the city of sport. Great sport events that were held here, like Tour de Pologne, or Cracovia Marathon have been organized on the highest level. Kraków city continues investing in the infrastructure and not only the stadiums, but also courts for children, swimming pools, and the new sport hall. All these activities briought the results, for ex ample the organization of the Volleyball World Championships, in Kraków.
