Helen Veermäe: We’re happy to play against EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017 hosts in Gdansk

Estonia will meet Poland, Finland and Serbia in Pool A of EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017 Preliminary Round. “We’re happy that we will play against the hosts in Gdansk” - said Helen Veermäe, Secretary General of the Estonian Volleyball Federation at the Drawing of Lots Ceremony in Krakow.

pzps.pl: In Preliminary Round of EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017 Estonia will play in one pool with Poland, Finland and Serbia. Do you think that the drawing of lots was lucky for your team?

Helen Veermäe: I think this is a very interesting pool. We will have a chance to meet the host team of the tournament and we expect to have that incredible atmosphere in the hall. We will also play another strong opponent, the team of Serbia. We will try and play our best volleyball. But most of all, we are happy to play our neighbours Finland. We often have opportunity to play many different matches and they are always very exciting for both sides.

There are quite a few Estonian players in PlusLiga, more precisely in Cuprum Lubin. Do you agree that this will make it easier for your team when preparing for match against Poland?

Of course it will. Moreover, the team that you mentioned is led by Gheorghe Cretu, coach of our national team. He will have some secret knowledge about team Poland. We had a talk after the Drawing of Lots ceremony and he said he was very excited to be able to play against the teams of Poland, Serbia and Finland.

Estonian fans will not have to travel far to come and support their team in Gdansk.

Indeed, the distance between our countries is not long. We expect about one thousand of our fans to go Poland, but this figure can be even bigger. This will be an important tournament for the Estonian fans and will definitely want to be in the hall and cheer for their national team in the greatest number possible.

Which teams do you consider to have the biggest chance to win the next year’s EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017?

Polish volleyball is on a very high level. We of course hope that we and the countries next to us will cause a nice surprise and will count in EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017

Last question: how did you like the official Drawing of Lots Ceremony at Juliusz Slowacki Theatre in Krakow?

It was very nice. The atmosphere was great There were no long presentations, only concrete and most useful material. I really liked how the information was presented.
