- France claimed first win in Pool B after victory over Slovakia
20 September 2013
On Friday in very first clash in Pool B France jumped into the first victory over Slovakia 3-0 (25-20, 35-33, 28-26). However, team of Laurent Tille did not avoid some problems with so brave Slovak players.
In first set France was a better team with unstoppable Antonin Rouzier. Slovakia couldn't block him on the right side of the net. Coach Chrtianski tried to change the look of the game of his team by double-substitution with Juraj Zatko and Milan Bencz, but the set was already lost for his team as point advantage grew up to the six points. France finally beat Slovakia 25:20.
Sports aggresive was a Stefan Chrtiansky's team attitude on the beginning of the second part, when mostly thanks to great game of Tomas Kmet they led 8:5, holding dominance only till 15:15. Then France started to play their volleyball, however ace of Chrtianski jr. set the score for 22:22. It was even 24:22 for Slovakia, but brave Earvin Ngapeth, who continued his great streak, served and ace whilst Slovakia had a setball, equalize the score in effect. Much more cool-headed France won the thrilling neck-to-neck part 35:33.
In third set Slovakia started to play effective volleyball, whereas France started to lose control over the game, making some errors. However, in the end they were more clam again, drawing 22:22, but then Nemec failed his spike for 22:23. Then the game was close till the end, but France won it eventually by Kevin Le Roux's block 28-26.
In French team, the best scorer were Earvin Ngapeth with 18 points and Antonin Rouzier (17). On Slovakia’s side it was a good performance of Ogurcak, who scored 14 points for his team.
Benjamin Toniutti (France team captain): Congratulations to Slovakia's player, who played dazzling in defence and reception. It's hard to play against team, which plays on this way. It was important to win today here 3-0, gainin 3 points from this game as it is always hard to start tournaments like this. Now we need some rest before hugely important struggle with Poland.
Michal Masny (Slovakia team captain): We lost the game, in which we planned to get any point from that match. Finally we were worse at two close finishes, being able to catch up with the score. We have to forget about this match because it's only a history right now. Tomorrow we will do our best to win and get a promotion to next round. On Saturday we will have another chance to take a step forward.
Laurent Tille (France team head coach): I'm very happy to win this game 3-0, especially that we had a great fights till the end. We had to be patient with some new situation, which surprised us as Slovakia played better in defence than on the net. We did not even thought about the things might get on this way. It was maybe the first time in history when they were better on the net than us. Even if the game was very nervous, we stayed on the court and just finished our kills with accuracy.
Stefan Chrtiansky (Slovakia team head coach): Obviously, for me it's not easy to analyse this game. The only difference was visible in the ending parts of two sets. France performed well, but they showed us that we are able to fight with opponents who are stronger than my team. Today they were just better. Finally, I am very happy with our defence, but totally disappointed with what we did in the block.
