Two years ago in Izmir polish volleyball players had the best tournament in the history of the European Championships and won the gold medal, without any failure. In the final of the 26th championships the team defeated France 3:1 (29:27, 25:21, 16:25, 26:24). The tournament took place in Stanbul and Izmir, in term 3rd -13th of September. Spain will defend the title won in Moscow in 2007.

At the first group phase of the tournament Poland lead by coach Daniel Castellani from Argentina had the following teams as opponents: France, Germany and Turkey. At the first game the team defeated France 3:1 and kept the good luck till the very end.
The most valuable player of the tournament (MVP) was spiker, Piotr Gruszka.
