Translation: Karolina Piotrowska, 7 February 2011
New coach of the white-and-reds, Andrea Anastasi, for now is staying in Brazil where he develops his skills by observing work of local professionals. Anastasi will arrive to Poland on the 20th of February to make a short reconnaissance. Next time he will stay longer to learn more about the players and to perform a conversation with each one of them.
- You found out about being elected new coach of the Polish National Team during your stay in Brazil. Are you taking a rest or working at the moment?
- I went to Brazil for two weeks, in order to look closer at the local Super League’s games and learn from better than me. I have spent several days in Sada Cruzeiro club, currently classified 3rd in the tournament, where my big friend Giovani Foppa works. I saw matches and trainings, observed their methods. I also had possibility to visit Sao Paulo and spend some time at the sea.
- When will you come to Poland?
- I have planned my visit to Brazil much earlier, before the proposal from Poland appeared. Otherwise, I would come to your country on the date of the decision. I will arrive to Poland on the 20th of February for a press conference and I will stay several days to make o short reconnaissance. Then we will also discuss details of my cooperation with the National Team and possible collaborators.
-Will you stay longer to learn more about the players, undertake first decisions?
-I do not know if I will stay longer at my first visit to Poland, or maybe I will do it next time. Fortunately, Poland is close to Italy and travel by plane takes just over an hour. If it will be necessary, I will come every weekend. For sure I will travel all over Poland fond of volleyball and look closer at the players-all of them without any exceptions, not only the ones who already representing the National Team. I know you have had a long and a tough season and the players are overtired. Therefore, before I make any decisions I would like to speak personally with each one about his health and usefulness in the National Team. Because the National Team’s season will also be tough, we need players who are healthy, rested (at least in part) and willing to cooperate.
-What about those less willing to cooperate, but a very necessary ones? Several volleyball players have already indicated a break from the National Team.
-I am going to talk to them personally too. Being tired and desire to rest is not only the problem in Poland. In Italy I had similar situation and somehow I managed to cope. Never had there been a situation that the player refused to participate in the tournament crucial for the country or for the National Team. I am sure we will come to an agreement.
