In Lausanne, during the meeting of the FIVB authorities the decision about changes in the World League formula has been taken.

In Lausanne, during the meeting of the FIVB authorities the decision about changes in the World League formula has been taken. The teams have been divided into three groups with six teams each one. 12 top teams of the world ranking, have been assigned to groups A and B. Worse teams will compete in group C. Three teams from each group A and B, will promowe to the final, as well as the best team from group C. The Final Eight will be complemented by the host team to be known at the end of January. – I like the new WL formula – said coach of the polish national team, Andrea Anastasi – 12 best teams will play with each other in two groups, what is a good way for development of volleyball all over the world. On the other hand, the best team from the third group enters the final and is being given a chance to improve their skills.

The rivals of the polish team are Brazil, USA, Bulgaria, Argentina and France. – We have a very strong group – said Andrea Anastasi. – If we want to keep on developing and move forward, we have to play against the best world teams. I do realize the fact it will not be easy for us to get to the final, in such a balanced group, but we will do our best. Final Eight is our goal.

An important change for the white-and-reds is avoidance of long and tiring journeys. The polish team will only have to travel to France and Bulgaria. We will play three home matches with Brazil, USA and Argentina. So far, during the World League matches six combined matches have been played. Now the teams will have to play two matches less. – There are reasons to be happy – said Anastasi. – It is a change for better in our opinion. I think thanks to new World League formula volleyball players will have more time for rest after a tiring league season. It is a good solution for everyone.
