Karolina Piotrowska, 9 September 2011
Memorial of Agata Mróz- Olszewska is the event that combines both sport and charity. The aim of the tournament is to support the action of blood donation and marrow transplantation in memorial of Agata Mróz Olszewska. Having the opportunity the foundation ‘Kropla Życia’ invites to Dąbrowa Górnicza, where fans together with people of great heart will meet in a sport hall „Centrum” – one can read on the website of the tournament.
The honorary patronage over the Memorial will be taken by the First Ladies: Danuta Wałęsa, Jolanta Kwaśniewska and Anna Komorowska.
Agata Mróz-Olszewska has been a European Champion twice, two times won with BKS Stal Bielsko-Biała the Championship of Poland, and once playing with Gruppo 2002 Murcia – the title of the Champion of Spain. She suffered Myelodysplastic syndrome of marrow. She died on the 4th of June 2008, at the age of 26. She promoted honorary blond donation and bone marrow donation. The will to fight of Agata and her strong will to live moved the hearts of all people, not only those who were interested in volleyball. When she died her friends and husband Jacek Olszewski, decided to continue her initiative. This is how the idea to organize the Memorial emerged.
Every year during the Memorial the performance of many artists, athletes, painting and particular charity actions take place.
