Poland with a gold medal, ahead of Russia and Estonia – such is the final standing of the top three teams of the EEVZA U-17 Men Championship, which concluded last Sunday in Kętrzyn, Poland. The victorious Polish team won all its matches without dropping a single set.

In 2015 Poland won both European and World U-19 Championship. Now coach Maciej Zendeł’s team has to take their place in this age-group category. “We know very well that repeating this result is the best we can do and the bar is set incredibly high. It is hard to make any promises, but we will do what we can to try and repeat what our older colleagues achieved” – said Kamil Kosiba, team captain of Poland.

Kosiba’s teammate Mateusz Janikowski (outside hitter) was chosen as the tournament’s MVP.

Gold medals and prizes were presented by the Polish Volleyball Federation President, Mr. Paweł Papke. “I wish our EEVZA champions new victories but also patience and will to work hard on the next steps of their careers. Here in Kętrzyn they proved their talent and abilities. As the PVF President I can promise that our Federation will do everything possible to keep them growing as players” – said Papke.

The Mayor of Kętrzyn, Mr. Krzysztof Hećman was among the officials, who presented medals to the teams, which made it to the podium. “In the recent years we hosted three Polish youth championship tournaments . When we were given the opportunity to host the EEVZA championship, we did not hesitate for a moment. We wanted to give all our local volleyball fans a great Christmas present” – said the Mayor.
