CEV BoA meeting in Moscow cements unity and cohesion within Volleyball family

The CEV Board of Administration had their last plenary meeting of the year this past weekend in Moscow, as the highest-ranking authorities in the sport convened in the Russian capital for the 2017 edition of the European Volleyball Gala. 

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° attended the meeting as well, thus showing the close cooperation the CEV and FIVB have been developing in their effort to grow the game at all levels. 

The meeting was an opportunity to review an extremely successful year for European Volleyball and to look forward to the exciting challenges that still lie ahead. Obviously, the CEV Board of Administration members focussed their attention on the next edition of the EuroVolley, with four countries set to host the men’s competition and another four due to welcome the continental women’s Volleyball elite. The events in 2019 will be truly historic ones, since they will feature as many as 24 teams per gender. 

The delivery of major events, which go beyond the sporting competition, is one of the priorities set by the CEV – and this applies to next year’s Final Four tournaments of the CEV Volleyball Champions League as well as to the 2018 European Beach Volleyball Championship. At the same time, the CEV will work closely with the organisers of the 2019 EuroVolley in order to lay the foundations for the delivery of a ‘total event experience’ for all involved, with a focus on the fans’ engagement and off the court activities. 

While trying to develop its portfolio of top sports events, the CEV will at the same time focus on the grassroots level as well in order to grow the next generation of Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Snow Volleyball players. The “Volleyball at School” project will be instrumental to the achievement of this strategic goal as the CEV look forward to bringing Volleyball to children with the help of their respective teachers.  

The CEV will continue to work closely with all relevant stakeholders, and especially with National Federations and their clubs, in order to grow the game at all levels. There is much to look forward to in 2018 since next year’s calendar includes, among many other highlights, also the first-ever Snow Volleyball European Championship due to take place in Wagrain-Kleinarl and Flachau (Austria) from March 23 to 25. 

Once again, the CEV leadership were pleased with the sense of cohesion and unity perceived across members of the Volleyball family and expressed their conviction that by continuing to work as a team Volleyball in Europe can only become stronger and will be able to cope with the exciting challenges ahead.
